Social Media for the Bondsman

Social Media: What is it and how can a bondsman use it?

In her presentation Andrea Decker will offer a brief introduction to various forms of Social Media (such as facebook, twitter, LinkedIn, and YouTube.)

The goal of the session will NOT be to have everyone "tweeting" as they leave the room, but for every participant to understand the risks and benefits of using social media.

Tips will also be given to help a bondsman to develop a website if he/she does not already have one.  Also discussed will be ways to increase the odds that a website is returned as a top search result to someone searching in a search engine (such as Google) for the services of a bondsman.

Special attention will be given to providing relevant and practical ways that a bondsman can use social media to enhance and grow real business.

Social Media Quick Advice

Steps to take if you are just beginning:

Create a Twitter account.  Try to choose a short username to make "re-tweeting" easier.  Add your cell phone number under "devices" so you can send text messages to 40404 to post an update.  Be sure to setup your sleep settings so your phone won't buzz when your friends post updates at odd hours.

Get Tweetdeck.  It will help you see what you need to see since your eyes can't be watching the Twitter stream all day long.

Create a Facebook account.   Remember it is okay to "ignore" the invitations to add third party apps you may receive.  People won't think you are rude.

Try Selective Twitter if you want to be able to update your Facebook status and your Twitter status all at once.  (When you post a tweet you'll add "#fb" to the tweet and it will automatically be posted as your facebook status.)

Get on LinkedIn,  if for no other reason than to reserve your name and help you dominate the first page of a Google search for your name.

I'm not sure anyone is still using MySpace except musicians and groupies.

....Go to Twitter and do a keyword search about something you know about or are good at--look for conversations about which you have something to offer.  When you find an interesting conversation JOIN IT!  Be genuine.  Pretty soon you will have set yourself up as an expert on the subject.
